About
My name is Eli Goldberg and I am a New York City based lighting designer and assistant, originally from New Jersey and Colorado.
With a background in theatre, I like to say I will go wherever the light takes me. I love exploring the capabilities of light as an artistic medium, whether thats on a big musical, intimate dance concert, stadium event, or anything in between. I take great joy in meaningful collaboration between fellow artist. I believe that there is nothing more fulfilling than watching a collective piece of art take form, knowing that each individual artist had a hand in its creation.
In my designs I like to experiment with light's unique abilities to not only frame a space, but to also carry the story. Every live performance has a story, and I believe light holds great power in cultivating that. From subtle changes in color, to intentional uses of darkness and shadow, light can act as a background character ushering scenes in and out. Bright and flashy, or soft and subtle, whenever it fits the narrative best.
I pride myself in my attention to detail, communication and adaptability. I can pick things up quickly on the job and am never afraid to pivot. As an assistant, I am a detailed note taker, and a multitasker capable of following through on multiple tasks. My work has been seen regionally, in educational institutions such as Columbia University, Elon University and Emerson College, and around New York City. I have assisted in venues such as TD Garden, The Shed, The Shubert Theatre Boston, and others. I have experience in theatre (musicals and plays), dance, opera, broadcast TV, installations, and corporate events.
I hold a BFA in theatre design and technology with a concentration in lighting from Emerson College
